Qualifications

MBBS, MD (Paediatrics), or DNB (Paediatrics) 

Experience

The applicant must have relevant clinical pediatrics and/or haematology/oncology/immunology training. The successful applicant will be working closely with bone marrow transplant consultants and fellows in allied departments.

The department is a 10-bed transplant facility. Transplants are performed for malignant haematology, immunodeficiencies, non-malignant haematology, and metabolic disorders. The team has an interest in treating patients with advanced leukaemia and primary immunodeficiencies with organ involvement and immunedysregulation.

The job will offer training in all aspects of transplantation medicine including supportive care and there will be a scope to work on transplant-related projects and publish. The department is at the forefront of cutting-edge clinical work in cellular therapy, novel treatment strategies, and state-of-the-art supportive care. The unit has an excellent supportive care record with zero sepsis-related mortality due to advanced methods of targeted antimicrobial therapies. Transplant fellow will gain experience in using new targeted therapies such as antibodies to CD19, CD22, GD2, IFN-gamma, CD52, PD-1, MASP2, and inhibitors of FLT3, IL1B, bcl2 etc.

Five fellows have worked with us in the unit for the duration of one year. One fellow has established themselves as an independent consultant doing haematology-oncology and BMT, two fellows are in the process of establishing a transplant unit, one fellow is working as a haematology-oncology consultant, and one haematology-oncology naive fellow who worked in the unit after MD Paediatrics is currently doing DM in Paediatric oncology. A total of nine journal publications from the unit have been accepted so far of which seven have been accepted in international journals. All fellows have participated in transplant-related studies and have had one to three BMT-related publications during their fellowship.
